Powell's amaranth is an annual. Leaves are shiny, entire, and lack hairs. Lower stem, particularly of seedlings, is tinged red. Often confused with redroot pigweed. Leaves are more diamond-shaped or pointed than redroot pigweed, and flower bracts are longer and pointed.
