Population densities of nematodes go through cycles during the year, generally being low at some point in the season and increasing rapidly to some peak population at a later time (see section on Nematode Biology - select nematode species to view population dynamics). Not all nematodes have low and peak populations at the same time so knowledge of species population dynamics is important. For example, a count of 100/quart soil at the low part in the nematode’s population cycle represents a greater threat than 100/quart soil at the peak of the population cycle. If samples for a particular nematode species are always taken at the same time of the year, interpretation of the results is much easier. |
