Downy Brome

General Description:

Downy brome is an annual or winter annual that reproduces by seeds. It grows 4 to 30 inches tall with densely hairy leaf sheaths and blades. Inflorescence usually is drooping and one-sided. Awns are 3/8 to 5/8 inch long and often slightly purple at maturity. Flowers in April and May and seeds mature in May and June.

Herbicide Control Notes:

  • Add Gramoxone to Sinbar if downy brome has more than two leaves. Assure II is most effective when downy brome is small.
