Variegated Cutworm Larva	Variegated Cutworm Adult
	Mature larvae are 40 to 50 mm long. The body is mottled with dark brown or black and marked along the side with a yellow band. There is a "w-shaped" mark on the top of the last abdominal segment, and yellow spots on the top of segments 4 to 7. Adults have a wingspan of about 45 mm. This cutworm overwinters in soil or under trash. Larvae mature in late April and May and pupate in the soil. Adults emerge in late May and June and lay eggs. Larvae feed for 4 to 6 weeks, and are most damaging in mint during July and August. There are two generations each year in the northwest.  Select samping and action threshold to calculate damage levels.
