This is a peppermint farm near Madras, Oregon. Mitcham-based varieties of peppermint originated in Surrey, England and are grown commercially in areas near the 45th parallel in the U.S. and South America. In the western U.S., Black, Murray's, and Todd's Mitcham varieties are grown.

According to a recent (unpublished) survey of peppermint growers representing 168 Eastern and 208 Western Oregon fields, these are the percentage of fields in which the pest was observed. Note that spider mites, cutworms, and root weevils were abundant in both Eastern and Western Oregon. An additional minor pest in Eastern Oregon were aphids. Additional pests in Western Oregon also included symphylans and root borers.
